The Chalet at Skate,
Somerset House

Jimmy’s alpine inspired pop-up at
Somerset House returns for winter 2024.

Visitors in search of the finest, alpine-inspired, delicious food and festive tipples need look no further than Skate this season. Set away from the ice, nestled in Somerset House's West Wing, The Chalet, from pop-up legend Jimmy Garcia, brings the tastes of the Alps to Skate.

A few years ago Jimmy hosted his very own ski chalet in the Alps where he served beautiful food to guests after their days on the slopes. Our winter pop-up at Somerset House embodies the same cosy, alpine hospitality - showcasing the best mountain cuisine but using the finest British ingredients including native cheeses and cured meats to enjoy pre or après Skate.

The cosy, chalet-themed restaurant invites visitors to indulge in a seasonal menu of winter favourites and warming drinks, serving the best in festive feasting.

Private dining rooms will also be available for those in search of the perfect setting for a festive get-together with friends, family or colleagues.

Open daily from 13th November until 31st December 2024:

What our guests said

The Chalet Restaurant

The restaurant features seasonal winter favourites and warming drinks. Ingredients are carefully sourced, some as close as Brixton, selected by Jimmy Garcia himself.

A delicate plate of gin-cured salmon with pickled beetroot and seeded cracker uses Graveney Gin produced organically just down the road in Tooting. The charcuterie board features meats cured by Tempus in Weybridge with the quality matching that of Italy and Spain. Vicars Game, based in Reading, supply the wild boar sausages for Jimmy’s festive take on sausage and mash with pommes aligot (very cheesy mash).

Coming in a pair? Then you couldn’t possibly miss Jimmy’s famous dish, the British Cheese Fondue. Again, sourcing is important, with Ogleshield and Coastal Cheddar coming from Neals Yard Dairy. Dip to your heart's content with sourdough bread from BreadBread Bakery in Brixton, baby potatoes, cornichons, silverskin onions and a mixed leaf salad. Vegan version available. A children's menu is also available.

APRÈS SKATE PACKAGE

Nothing says it’s Christmas time quite like ice skating at Somerset House. And if you were able to follow skating with a fantastic alpine-inspired feast before channelling your inner Mariah Carey and bellowing “All I want for Christmas is you” in an after-dinner sing-along that would be amazing right?!

Well now you can! Because this year on three nights from late November we’ll be offering our brand new Après Skate experience.

For just £75, you’ll get to enjoy a welcome gluhwein, a delicious 3 course dinner starring our British cheese fondue and our very own ‘Christmas bauble’ dessert and that’s all before the singalong starts!
